Verba is an app for learning English. It works without an account: your progress, your answers and your statistics stay on your device. Only two things leave the phone: your Google account details if you choose to sign in, and anonymous usage measurements. Nothing is sold or shared with advertisers.
Most of your data never leaves the phone. It is stored in the app's local database (Room, on Android):
None of this is sent to anyone. Uninstalling the app erases it for good.
Verba offers to sign in with a Google account. It is a choice, never a requirement: the whole app works without it. If you do sign in, we receive from Google, through Firebase Authentication, your display name, your email address and an account identifier. These are used only to show your account in the settings and to recognise you across devices. No advertising profile is built from them.
You can sign out at any time from Settings → Account. To have the account and the associated details deleted, write to the address below; deletion happens within thirty days.
The app uses Firebase Analytics (Google) to understand how Verba is used: screens opened, quizzes started, how often the app is launched. These measurements are tied to an installation identifier, not to your identity. They help us decide what to improve. They are neither resold nor used for ad targeting.
The dictionary and the reading-mode articles are fetched from Cloud Firestore (Google). These are reads: the app downloads content, it sends nothing about you. Articles come from public sources (news agencies, Wikipedia) and are credited to their origin.
Verba contains no advertising, no ad SDK, and does not use the Android Advertising ID.
Exchanges with Google services are encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS). Local data benefits from the device's own encryption.
Under the GDPR you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of the information concerning you, and object to usage measurement. One address covers all of it, given below.
Verba is intended for people aged 13 and over. The app surfaces real news articles whose content is not filtered, so it is not aimed at young children. We do not knowingly collect data about a child under 13; if that were to happen, write to us and we will delete it.
This policy may be updated if the app changes significantly. The date of the last update is shown at the top of this page.
